A Citizens’ Assembly is a group of people who come together to talk about a problem and decide what should be done.
The people in the group are picked at random, a bit like how a Jury is chosen. This means the group will include people of different ages and backgrounds, so it looks like the whole Dunfermline community. Because names are chosen by lottery, it’s not just the loudest or most powerful people who get a say.
The Assembly will listen to experts, but instead of politicians telling them what to think, the people will learn, share ideas, and decide together what they think is best.
The Dunfermline New City Assembly will meet over three weekends in early 2026. They will be given clear information, talk in small and big groups, and have helpers (called facilitators) to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to speak.
At the end, the group will write down their ideas and give them to the Fife Council Area Committee. The Committee will use these ideas when planning the future of Dunfermline.
The goal is simple: the people who live in Dunfermline should help decide its future – because nobody knows Dunfermline better than the people who live there.
